Instructions

    • 1

Start brushing at the ends of your hair and work up. Brushing from root to tip may cause you to damage your hair if you hit a tangle. Brushing your roots repeatedly also brings natural oils up to the surface and makes your hair look greasy before it's time to wash again.

    • 2

Brush medium-length hair with a vented brush with wide-spaced bristles and use a paddle brush with stiff bristles for longer, thicker hair. Flip your head over and brush the underside of your hair as well. When you flip your hair back, be sure to brush it down and smooth it out. Always brush gently to avoid damaging your hair.

    • 3

Remove tangles from hair with a wide-tooth comb. Brushing tangles not only hurts, it can actually make things worse. Use detangling spray if necessary. Wide-tooth combs are also good for very short hair when brushing isn't necessary.

    • 4

Purchase good, high-quality brushes. They may be expensive, but they will last longer than a cheap brush and cause less damage to your hair. Check the bristles of a brush carefully before buying.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never brush wet hair. Use a wide-tooth comb on your hair after washing. Brush your hair only when dry.
