If you've mastered basic and intermediate hula hoop moves and you think you're ready to be the hula hoop champ in your neighborhood, it's time to learn a few freestyle hula hoop tricks. They are more difficult and require practice, but be patient and you'll soon be hula hooping like a pro.

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 hula hoops
  1. Step 1

Start out with the basic hand movement and move to a double hand movement, spinning two hoops around each arm rather than one. When the hoops are moving fast, reverse one arm to a backwards circle. Allow the hoops to move so that you have one hoop on each wrist and one hoop on each elbow.

  2. Step 2

Move from a basic hooping movement to a Four in a Column trick, beginning with one hoop around your waist and three in your hand, moving them one at a time. Move one hula hoop to your knees, then one to your hand, one to your neck, as one hula hoop continues to spin around your waist. Concentrate on each individual hoop and keep the speed and momentum of the hoops.

  3. Step 3

Do the Way Out hula hoop trick by standing on one leg as you spin one hoop on your foot. One at a time, put one hoop on your raised foot and one on each hand. Keep the speed and momentum.

  4. Step 4

Spin one hula hoop around your hand and keep it moving as you lie down on the floor. Raise your leg and put the hula hoop on the arch of your raised foot, keeping it moving in an Around the Foot trick. Once you've mastered this, practice moving the hoop from one foot to the other.
