Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Allow your new pet time to explore his new home and settle into a routine. If he is shy or hides, create places he can hide where you know you'll find him. Don't try to pull the animal to you or get him to be affectionate on your terms. Give him time to get to know you and make up his mind about living with you.
Step2
Bridge the physical gap gradually. Move normally around your home as you would if the pet weren't there. Don't modify your actions on account of the pet's fear or skittish behavior. Let her adjust to you; don't adjust yourself to her.
Step3
Create consistent boundaries and feeding times. Your pet will trust you when he knows what to expect from you. Keeping your pet to a schedule that's consistent and fair creates an environment that allows your pet to relax and feel safe.
Step4
Give treats for good behavior. Correct, but don't punish, bad behavior. New pets can come from all sorts of situations, so it's best to speak in kind and gentle tones to them to assure them they're safe now. Remember that your pet doesn't speak your language, so gently show her what you expect.

on 10/3/2008 Very genuine tips - just like we do - behave normally and let the new family member settle in.
