If you've ever been on the rubber chicken circuit, you know that convention food can be atrocious and a real detriment to your diet. The banquet at a convention center is usually the big meal of the event. The kitchen cranks out dinners for hundreds at a time, often dry and overcooked--usually chicken. But you can do a few things to eat well at a convention.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Figure out the schedule for the convention. The snack and meal times are arranged far ahead of time with the hotel or convention center. Get to the serving line early to get the freshest food.

  2. Step 2

Drink plenty of water. This drink will flush toxins you may ingesting in bigger portions as well as keep you hydrated in a convention center that may be dry.

  3. Step 3

Seek out the fresh fruit and vegetables. Fill up on those and keep the free cookies and candy munching to a minimum.

  4. Step 4

Slow down on coffee consumption. Many convention centers provide pots and pots of coffee for convention attendees. The continual refilling of your coffee cup can become unintentional, leading to a variety of health problems. Instead, ask the serving staff to supply some hot water and tea on occasion.

  5. Step 5

Order a vegetarian dish for the banquet. Typically a pasta or vegetable dish, the vegetarians in the convention crowd often eat much better than the carnivores. The dish will be better for your diet and often will taste better. The kitchen produces fewer veggie dishes, so they will be fresher and more creative.
