Saltwater taffy is a tasty treat that is just as much fun to play with as it is to eat. Consuming taffy is often a messy experience, but with a little practice, the proper technique and a bit of patience, you can eat big pieces of taffy without making a mess of yourself.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Place saltwater taffy that is too warm directly into the refrigerator until it becomes cool. Attempting to eat hot taffy will result in a huge mess and very little enjoyment.
Step2
Choose your piece of saltwater taffy and carefully remove its wrapper. If the taffy is too warm and the wrapper adheres to the sticky taffy, discard that piece and choose another.
Step3
Bite down firmly into the taffy with your two front teeth.
Step4
Use your teeth to wrench off a small piece of the saltwater taffy. Assuming the taffy isn't warm while you're attempting this task, no strings should come off the taffy.
Step5
Move the salt water taffy a few inches away from your mouth and then carefully drape any strings that form around the bigger section of taffy.
Step6
Continue wrapping the strings around the bigger section of taffy until you can fit the entire piece into your mouth.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have braces, avoid eating sticky foods like saltwater taffy, caramel, jelly beans and gum, which will stick to your braces and possibly damage them.
