Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Find that a basic order of nachos will probably be tortilla chips and nacho cheese, possibly with salsa as another option for dipping. Other options for standard nachos include seasoned ground beef, sour cream, shredded cheddar or a Mexican-blend cheese, refried beans, lettuce, diced tomatoes, black olives, sliced jalapeƱo peppers and guacamole.
Step2
Substitute the ground beef with Southwest seasoned chicken. You could make this yourself or buy one of the already seasoned and cooked chicken strips available in most grocery stores. Take your average nacho platter up a notch by substituting thinly sliced steak.
Step3
Be adventurous and try specialty nachos, which might include seafood such as shrimp and crab meat. Replace plain tortilla chips with flavored tortilla chips, such as lime, for a different taste to nachos of any variety.
Step4
Build a nacho platter at home by starting with a layer of tortilla chips. Add the ingredients of your choice and finish with a hefty layer of shredded cheese, which when melted will help keep the other ingredients on the chips as you eat them. Place under the broiler in the oven just long enough to melt the cheese.
Step5
Break off a chunk of chips that are melted together and move them to your own plate. Try not to take all the chips that are heavily laden with toppings, leaving only naked chips.
