The paper clip trick is a simple magic trick which can be performed in an impromptu manner anywhere you can find two paper clips and a dollar bill. If a dollar bill can't be located, you can substitute any piece of paper.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get two medium-sized paper clips. Small or large paper clips will make the trick harder to perform.

  2. Step 2

Fold a dollar bill into thirds lengthwise. The dollar bill should form a Z shape. Position the bill upright so it stands up.

  3. Step 3

Place the first paper clip on the bill. The first paper clip should clip together the front and middle folds of the bill. For the trick to work, the paper clip must be on the opposite side of the front fold.

  4. Step 4

Put the second paper clip on the bill. The second paper clip should clip together the middle fold and the back fold. It needs to be on the opposite end of the other paper clip.

  5. Step 5

Pull the two ends of the dollar bill away from each other. Start slowly so you do not rip the bill. The paper clips should begin to move toward each other.

  6. Step 6

Watch for the paper clips to join. As the paper clips come into contact with each other, they will join and then spring off of the bill. Pick up the paper clips and show they are connected to prove the trick worked.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you have mastered connecting two paper clips, use the trick to try to connect more. Line up two paper clips on each side of the bill to connect four paper clips.
