1
Attend all of your English classes and arrive on time. By not coming to class or arriving late, you can miss valuable information including announcements about upcoming exams and assignments.
-
2
Come to class prepared. It's difficult to be an active participant in class and do well if you don't have the necessary supplies. Be sure to bring your notebook, pens or pencils, any reading material and any assignments that are due that particular day.
-
-
3
Pay attention in class and take good notes. Try to concentrate and focus only on what your teacher is talking about. Be sure to take notes on any important points that your teacher makes.
-
4
Do all assignments and turn them in on time. Assignments that you don't do or ones that you turn in late will affect your English grade in a negative way. Write down all assignment due dates and any instructions in your notebook or in a day planner.
-
5
Read all works assigned in your high school English class. Try to read a little bit each night. If you put off your reading until the night before it is due, you will feel overwhelmed and likely not fully understand the text.
-
6
Raise your hand in class and ask questions when you don't understand something. Most likely, other students have the same concerns. If you still have questions or concerns, ask your high school English teacher if you can meet with her after class, or after school, to go over your concerns.
-
7
Attempt to participate in every class. Answer questions or ask your own. Try joining in discussions of the reading material.
