If you've forgotten your Windows XP password, don't worry. As long as you have your Windows XP CD, it's an easy fix. No matter your skill level, you can simply change your administrative password for free during the Windows XP Repair.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Set the bios of your computer to "boot from CD." Insert your Windows XP CD and restart your computer. Follow the directions on the screen to complete boot-up.

  2. Step 2

Press "Enter" when you get the "Welcome to Windows" screen prompting you to "Setup Windows now." Hit "F8" to accept the Licensing Agreement.

  3. Step 3

Choose to do a Repair when you get to the Setup screen. Press "R" to start the repair. Setup checks your disk and begins copying files. This may take several minutes. Your computer should reboot when this is finished.

  4. Step 4

Watch the lower left side of the screen for the "Installing Devices" process bar and press "Shift" and "F8." A command console should open up to allow you access to your system.

  5. Step 5

Type "NUSRMGR.CPL" and press "Enter" at the command prompt. You can now gain access to the User Accounts found under the Control Panel.

  6. Step 6

Pick the account that you need to change. Enter the new password you want. Close all the windows, exit the command box and finish the Repair. You need to have your Product Key available to complete the Repair.

  7. Step 7

Log on to your computer with your new password after the Repair is finished.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't press any key to boot from the CD after Step 3.
