How to Block MySpace From a Home Network

If you have young children or teenagers in your household, you may wish to block MySpace from your home network. Although MySpace is relatively safe, there have been incidences of child predators taking advantage of unsuspecting users. You have several different options open to you when choosing to block MySpace.

Instructions

1. Set the parental controls on your Internet browser. If you have parental control features on your web browser, you can list MySpace as a blocked site.

2. Block MySpace by using a website blocker software or hardware program. For example, the iBoss is both a router and Internet content filter. Since it is a wireless router, you can block all computers on your home network. If you would rather use a software program to block MySpace, try a free trial version of Terminator X.

3. Add the MySpace IP addresses to your computer's filtering program. You can retrieve these addresses from the MySpace site.

4. Contact MySpace if you are unsuccessful at blocking your child from the site. If the child has a profile listed and they are underage, MySpace will remove it from their site.

Tips & Warnings

• To block all pages of MySpace, you'll need to type numerous IP Addresses into the filter settings. If you are using your router's filtering settings, follow the instructions provided during setup.
• If you want to still access MySpace, simply monitor your child's online activity closely or use the parental controls options on your web browser.

on 4/29/2008 Kids can bypass IP and parental control blocking via free proxy sites. Software methods are far more better. For example "Website Block" software from Ashkon that blocks sites per domain name / keyword occurance in URL
