FrontPage Express in the freeware version of Microsoft FrontPage, a well known web designing software package. Express doesn't have all the advanced features the full version offers, such as Active Server Pages and some WebBot components, but the software allows you to build a website with the WYSIWYG environment without having to know HTML code.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Download and install FrontPage Express on your computer. Find the download file for free on the Internet through a good web search. For example, the website "Storm the Castle" has it available for download.
Step2
Get familiar with the program's toolbars. They are very similar to the rest of the Microsoft Office programs. The blank gray window is your webpage. Design this window exactly how you want your webpage to look.
Step3
Change the background color of your website. Click on "Format" on the menu bar. Go to "Background" and select the color you want your webpage to be. Many prefer white for their background choice.
Step4
Create tables. To help organize your webpage and keep everything looking orderly, divide your webpage into tables. Click "Tables" on the menu bar at the top to begin designing your table. Designate the size and other properties of your table in the "Insert Tables" box.
Step5
Add text to the webpage by typing in the area where you want the text to appear. Format the text the same way you would in Microsoft Word. Highlight the text you want to edit and select the size, color and font from the menu bar at the top.
Step6
Insert an image. Place your cursor on the area of the page where you want the image to appear. Click "Insert" from the toolbar and select "Image." Browse to the location of the image you want to place on the page.
Step7
Make a new folder, and title it the name of your website. Save your webpage in that folder when you're finished. Design and save more pages to your folder.
Step8
Link your pages together with hyperlinks. Highlight the text where you want to add a hyperlink. Click the hyperlink button on the toolbar that looks like a world with a chain link on it. When the menu box the pops up, browse to the webpage you want to pull up when someone clicks on the link.

Tips & Warnings

  • Write your webpage using HTML code. If you know HTML, Microsoft FrontPage Express also lets you write your own HTML for your webpage in a separate window.
