Be Good at Show Choir

Show choirs perform in bright outfits with catchy tunes and large movements. Being good at show choir requires that you sing to the best of your ability, dance your heart out and keep a really big smile on your face whenever you're on stage.

Instructions

    • 1

Commit fully to your show choir. Learn the choreography and your singing part. Buy the correct, complete outfits and invest in stage make-up. Attend all practices and give your all at every practice. Practice as if you're performing, so when it's time to perform you'll already be in the habit of doing it right.

    • 2

Maintain a positive, can-do attitude. Being negative brings the rest of the team down and discourages learning and cooperation. Take any concerns and questions to the choir director.

    • 3

Make your moves crisp and snappy. Keep a smile on your face with your eyebrows raised. Be facially expressive with every move you make.

    • 4

Learn how to have good breath support while dancing. Planning each breath is a good way to stay supported and avoid becoming winded.

    • 5

Direct your eyes to specific audience members. Don't let their blank stares intimidate you. Keep smiling. For fast songs, change your target every five to six seconds. For slower songs, change every 10 to 12.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's likely that you'll make a lot of friends during your show choir rehearsals. Restrict all your socializing to before and after rehearsals.

  • You may need to work on your own in addition to your group rehearsals. Ask for a tape of the music so that you can rehearse your vocals and choreography.
