When your friends are always going out, having fun and spending money, you may feel left out if you're on a tight budget. The following steps will show you how you can be popular among your friends while sticking to your budget.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plan outings with friends that don't include spending money, such as hanging out at a local park or beach for the afternoon, playing tennis or going on a hike. This way you still get to have a great time with your friends without breaking the bank.

  2. Step 2

Eat meals at home instead of going out to dinner with friends. Meet your friends after dinner just for drinks or for dessert so that you still get to show your face without shelling out tons of cash on dinner.

  3. Step 3

Buy only one drink when going out with friends, and sip it slowly. While everyone else is downing drinks like it's their job, you may feel out of place if you're not keeping up. By keeping one drink in your hand as long as possible, you'll avoid the pressure of buying multiple drinks.

  4. Step 4

Cut corners whenever possible. If friends invite you to the movies, avoid buying popcorn and candy. Better yet, invite your friends over to watch a DVD at your place instead of spending double the amount of money on a movie ticket.

  5. Step 5

Stay in shape by going for a daily jog and doing sit-ups and other strengthening exercises at home. This is a great alternative to joining an expensive gym, and it will keep you looking great for the next time you hang out with your friends.

Tips & Warnings
  • Let your close friends know that you're on a budget so that they understand why you can't spend a lot of money on expensive dinners or shopping trips. If they are your true friends, you will remain popular in their eyes no matter what your budget is.
