How to Be Popular With the Guys

Everyone wants to be popular in school. Most girls want to be popular with the guys, but what is the best way to achieve that? A little flirting goes a long way, and we always want to be careful that we're sending out the right signals.

1. Show self-respect and value other people. Respect the ideas, feelings and wishes of others while maintaining an impeccable degree of trust and confidentiality. Develop a reputation as the best secret keeper.

2. Be compassionate. Demonstrate concern for the problems and difficulties of others without feeling the need to solve problems for everyone. Save all judgments, and recognize that no one appreciates it.

3. Practice empathic listening: respond in a way that tells the speaker he was heard. Develop a reputation as a great listener. Offer advice and opinions only when requested to do so. Eliminate gossip and be the stopping point for rumors, no matter how tantalizing.

4. Dress and grooming is a way that communicates self-esteem. Relax and have fun without worrying about messing up a hairdo or breaking a nail.

5. Bone up on sports. Accept the fact that competitive sports are important to the majority of guys. Know the basic rules of any game and the difference between offense and defense.

6. Have a life. Cultivate varied interests and invest time in hobbies, family and friends. Make time for guys but don't make guys a life pursuit. Work to be interesting and well-rounded.
