How to Air Condition a Car Without Using the Air Conditioner

Most people are used to air-conditioning everywhere they go. But since using the air conditioning in your car leads to less efficient gas mileage, it might be a worthwhile endeavor to see if you can air condition your car without using the air conditioner.

Instructions

    • 1

Park in the shade whenever possible, and position the car so that the sun won't shine directly in your front windshield. You might consider moving your car partway through the day as the sun moves, to keep it out of the direct sun as much as possible.

    • 2

Leave the windows open just a crack on both sides of the vehicle to allow for cross ventilation.

    • 3

Put a sunshade in the front windshield of your car to block the sun.

    • 4

Open the sunroof if you have one, or just roll the windows down when you first get going to move the warm air out the car and create a breeze. Turn the car vents to fresh air and use the fan to increase its cooling capability.

    • 5

Try to travel early in the morning or after sunset when it's naturally cooler outside. Avoiding rush hour traffic will allow you to keep moving and take advantage of the breeze to cool your car without the air conditioner.

    • 6

Consider having your car's windows tinted. This will cost you some money upfront, but you'll be rewarded with a cooler car. Depending on the tint you choose, not only is the heat blocked out to a degree, but also will keep you safe by blocking a large percentage of ultra-violet rays.

Glass blocks UV rays inherently. Also ifyou have a radar detector, and tinted windows, look forward to less effective range.
