Step 1
Practice at the range regularly. A top marksman is above all things consistent in his approach to the discipline.
-
Step 2
Shoot at varying distance and conditions. A better gun shooter is one who is adaptable to the environment.
-
Step 3
Slowly squeeze the trigger when your aim is fixed. You should be surprised when the gun goes off; otherwise you'll tend to pull your shots off to the left or the right from jerking the trigger.
-
Step 4
Maintain good breath control when you are shooting. If your breathing is erratic your shot placement will be unpredictable.
-
Step 5
Ask someone to observe your shooting to see if they can spot any problems you might have in your shooting process. If this isn't possible, consider video taping yourself for later review.
-
Step 6
Ensure that you're placing the stock of the gun in the same place against your shoulder each time you fire. Consistency is the name of the game in marksmanship.
-
Step 7
Make sure you put away your firearm in a protected area in order to prevent damage during storage. A misaligned sight will make marksmanship impossible, even for the most talented shooter.
