How to Become a Cute Punk

You love listening to punk music, you agree with the free thinking--you do what you want when you want. But you don't want to shave your head or wear a bull ring. Luckily for you, being punk is about breaking the mold of "normal," not following specific fashions.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Listen to punk music and mix it with whatever else you like--don't be afraid to create your own style. Make a playlist of music from the Offspring, No Doubt, Weezer, Cindy Lauper, the Clash, Green Day, Bratmobile and Bikini Kill. Don't be afraid to listen to pop-punk like the All-American Rejects, Blink 182 and Fall Out Boy.

  2. Step 2

Shop at thrift stores, dig through your mom's closet and focus on finding cheap clothes that you can easily alter and layer. Support small and local businesses and look in a variety of shops for a mix of punk and pretty styles.

  3. Step 3

Mix the styles to create your own look. Cut up a pair of jeans and wear them with lace or a vintage corduroy jacket. Wear a ruffled dress with combat boots. Create your style with a constant focus on mashing the pink prettiness with the black dirtiness of cute punk.

  4. Step 4

Choose accessories to finish the look. Look everywhere for the great one-of-a-kind pieces from shops like Hot Topic and Claire's to Goodwill--and don't forget your grandmother's jewelry box. Wear accessories such as large rings, skull earrings, multiple bracelets and fishnet tights.

  5. Step 5

Wear as little or as much makeup as you want. Mix black eyeliner and mascara with glitter eye shadow and pink lip gloss. Really show your mood through your makeup--let your style show and don't be afraid to be prettier one day and grungier the next. Punk is what you make it.

on 5/12/2009 Not bad. Even though you are trying to "teach" people how to be punk, this is the most individual based how-to I've read.
