If you find it hard to read what is on your monitor's screen, or if you are simply bored with the look of your computer, you can increase its legibility and give your computer display a fresh look when you activate high contrast. This is a feature in Windows that will change your monitor's color scheme to a high contrast scheme, and enhances legibility. Here's how to activate it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Click on your "Start" button. Navigate over to "Control Panel" and click to open it.
Step2
Double-click on "Accessibility Options" and then click on the "Display" tab.
Step3
Put a check mark in the box next to "Use high contrast."
Step4
Click "Apply" and then click "OK" to activate high contrast.

Tips & Warnings

  • A simple, alternative method you can use to activate high contrast is to press the buttons: "Alt + Shift + Print Screen" simultaneously.
  • The above-mentioned steps will definitely work if you are using a system running Windows XP. They are, however, not tested in other versions of the Windows operating system. You may not be able to use these steps if your system is running on XP Pro 64 bit.
  • It often happens that when you switch from or to a high contrast display, the programs that you currently have running on your PC may crash. In this case, you simply have to re-start the programs. It is also best to activate Window's high contrast display before you open any of your applications.
