TransUnion is one of the three credit bureaus that your creditors will submit your credit history to, along with Experian and Equifax. When you apply for a loan or a job, your score will be reviewed and can be affected by negative credit entries. Disputing inaccurate line items in your TransUnion report will allow you to improve your score and stave off identity theft.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Order your report on Annual Credit Report online. This is the only website authorized by the Federal Trade Commission and will give you access to all three credit bureaus.
Step2
Examine your credit, including the identification information and address for anything you don't recognize. Look for late payments and loans or credit cards you have closed.
Step3
Dispute online the TransUnion website for the quickest turn around. They will ask you some verification questions about your accounts and credit history that only you will know before they give you access.
Step4
Call a representative at TransUnion at (800) 916-8800 to dispute by phone. You will need your TransUnion file number from the credit report, your personal identification information and the company name and account number for each item you're disputing on your credit.
Step5
Mail your dispute by first filling in the information with the form provided online and then mailing to: TransUnion Consumer Solutions at P.O. Box 2000 Chester, PA 19022-2000. The mailed response will come back in 45 days.
Step6
Keep copies of all your disputes. TransUnion will contact the creditors and then evaluate whether an item can be removed from your credit report. You can also contact the creditor directly to dispute an error.
