How to Play the Tide Pool Challenge

The Tide Pool Challenge tests your knowledge of plants and animals from different intertidal zones around the world. The goal of the challenge is to guess the name of the plant, the name of the animal, and what intertidal zone they are from.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Grab a partner and find pictures of 20 plants and animals located in various tide pools.
Step2
Have someone write the name of the plant or animal on the back of the pictures, and also write the intertidal zone of the pool the plant or animal can be found in.
Step3
Place each of the pictures face up on a table in a big square. The grid should be five across and four down.
Step4
Choose a picture and ask your partner to guess the name of the plant or animal on it. If the answer is correct, give your partner a point. He receives a bonus point if he can guess the intertidal zone.
Step5
Continue the game, alternating turns, until all the picture have been used.
Step6
Calculate the winner by seeing who had the most points after are the picture were used.

Tips & Warnings

  • Study up on your tide pools. The tide pool challenge is a test of tide pool knowledge, so it's important that you're versed.
  • Keep extra pictures on hand just in case there is a tie.
  • Play this game with kids to create awareness of the ocean world around them.
