When the economy seriously slumps over a period of time, it is called a recession—in an effort to get out of the recession, sometimes government officials will jumpstart the economy. Although there are numerous ways to do this, a tax rebate is often the method used. Most tax payers get checks in the mail to spend any way they wish.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
File your income tax every year. Tax rebate checks are usually only sent to people who pay taxes.
Step2
Check the qualifications for the tax rebate offered for the current recession.
Step3
Meet the current qualifications and you make the list automatically. You will receive your tax rebate. The Internal Revenue Service will mail the checks on the predetermined date.
Step4
Notify the Internal Revenue Service (see link in Resource section) if you do not receive your tax rebate when expected. The Internal Revenue Service may stagger sending the checks, so make sure your check was due before calling.
Step5
Use your tax rebate any way you wish. The purpose of the check is to stimulate the economy and end the recession. Buy something you need but put off buying due to lack of funds.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do not receive a check and you think it may be because you are not qualified, follow up with the Internal Revenue Service or you personal financial manager to make sure you are not due this tax rebate.
