Hosting a Cirque du Soleil party before seeing a show is a fun way for you and your friends to get in the "circus" spirit and grab some tasty refreshments. Since Cirque du Soleil is a French circus performance, prepare some quick, delicious French appetizers and drinks for an authentic experience.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Champagne glasses
  • Champagne
  • White wine
  • Black currant liqueur
  • 3 to 4 large tomatoes
  • Shallots
  • Parsley
  • Red wine vinegar
  • Dijon mustard
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Serving platters
  • French olives
  • French cheeses
  • Chocolate truffles
  • Coffee

Step1
Start your party by offering guests a glass of chilled champagne or "Kir," which is a French mixed drink made by combining one part black currant liqueur with five parts dry white wine (which can also be substituted with champagne.)
Step2
Prepare a few simple hors d'oeuvres. A simple and classic vegetable dish is a sliced tomato salad. Buy three or four large, quality tomatoes and slice vertically. Arrange on a platter and top with 1 to 2 tbsps. each of minced shallots and finely chopped parsley. Finish with a simple vinaigrette of 1/4 cup red wine vinegar, 1 tbsp. Dijon mustard, 1 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper.
Step3
Purchase some good quality French olives at your local market. Picholine olives are green and have a wonderful fresh and "nutty" flavor. Black olives from Nyon are also a good choice. They offer a mild, slightly bitter and salty flavor.
Step4
Provide a cheese tray with a few classic French cheeses such as Brie, Compte and Roquefort. Serve with a fresh baguette and a few fresh or dried figs.
Step5
Finish the evening with a simple French dessert of chocolate truffles and freshly prepared coffee or espresso. Purchase and prepare the food you plan to serve before your guests arrive, so that you can enjoy the food and drinks along with your guests and prepare to be awed at the Cirque du Soleil experience.
