Step 1
Watch the Cirque du Soleil performers in action at one of the live shows.
-
Step 2
Visit an area where there are various street performers and take note of how their creativity and avant garde style colors their performances. Think of how you would incorporate your personal creativity into a marketable circus performance.
-
Step 3
Take a modern dance class or some other formal dance training in order to prepare your body to move in an expressive and interesting way. Try your hand at pantomime or acting courses to express yourself nonverbally, since the vast majority of Cirque du Soleil is performed to music.
-
Step 4
Draw inspiration from opera and ballet performance to gain a better understanding that the circus is more of an art installation than a traditional circus. There are approximately eight different types of Cirque du Soleil performers: dancers, actors, circus artists, musicians, singers, athletes, clowns, martial artists or other talent.
-
Step 5
Remember that Cirque du Soleil is often odd and eccentric in presentation. Interesting costumes, makeup, hairstyles and surrealistic music and backdrops create a definitive mood. Attempt to create a sense of whimsy and fantasy in whatever discipline you perform.
