How to Write a Poem for Parents' Day
Parents' Day is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of every July to honor parents for their commitment to parenting. This day helps children come to understand the importance that parents play in our lives every day. On Parents' Day, present your parents with a poem describing your feelings. Poetry can help children express their thoughts in such a way that they otherwise might not. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Brainstorm a list of the many topics that you want to touch upon in your Parent's Day poem. Think of fond memories that you have had with your parents as a child. Think about adjectives that you want to use to describe your parents.
-
2
Decide style of poetry you want to use to create your Parent's Day poem. There are various poetry styles such as acrostic, haiku, free verse, sonnets and diamante poems. Young children would most likely want to use an acrostic poem because it is one of the easier styles of poetry to write.
