Step 1
Allow your child to enjoy the Hannah Montana storm, as long as it doesn't interfere with school, family or other activities. Think back to your own childhood crushes and remember that you survived and your child will, too. This fad will pass, and most likely will leave happy memories in its wake.
-
Step 2
Discuss the necessity of attaining balance. If your child is getting too obsessed or involved with Hannah Montana, set some limits or suggest that she spend time with other activities.
-
Step 3
Use the opportunity to discuss the value of a dollar. If you can't afford concert tickets or expensive memorabilia, remind your child that he can watch the Hannah Montana show on TV, attend a movie or listen to a CD.
-
Step 4
Compromise with your child. If she begs for Hannah memorabilia every time you go shopping, discuss exactly how much you are willing to spend, and stick to it. For example, tell your child she can choose one item per month, and encourage her to choose wisely. You can also provide opportunities to earn extra spending money, but don't allow Hannah Montana materialism to take over.
-
Step 5
Join in and share the Hannah experience with your child. Have some fun and watch Hannah Montana on television with your child. Attend a concert together. Use Hannah Montana mania as an opportunity for family time.
