How to Use AdWords With Google Analytics

Google AdWords is a service that lets you buy ads to be displayed to users who are searching Google or browsing websites in Google's content network. Google Analytics is a different service that lets you track and analyize traffic on your web pages. Combinging AdWords and Analytics allows you to see how your advertising affects your page views.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a Google login and a Google AdWords account, if you do not already have one.

    • 2

Link your Google AdWords and Google Analytics accounts. Log in to Google AdWords and click the "Analytics" tab. Complete the form to either sign up for a new Google Analytics account, or use an existing account.

    • 3

Decide whether or not to allow "auto-tagging" and to have cost data imported. Once your accounts are linked, allowing auto-tagging lets Google automatically tag and track your AdWords links. Allowing cost importing lets Google create return on investment (ROI) data for your AdWords campaigns.

    • 4

Access your Google Analytics account, after you have linked your accounts either from the Google Analytics home page, or from the "Analytics" tab within your Google AdWords account.

Tips & Warnings

  • In Google Analytics, you can allow other people to access your tracking and analysis data. However, they can't access your AdWords account, even if they are linked. Viewing Google Analytics reports related to AdWords is possible.

  • If your Google AdWords account is part of a "My Client Center" account, you can't link these two services using the instruction provided.
