The BOSU is a great piece of equipment to improve balance in sports conditioning workouts. The BOSU could be one of the best pieces of exercise equipment created to enhance and challenge an athlete's balance in sports conditioning by improving their ability to maintain their center of gravity throughout the competition or game.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • BOSU balance trainer
  1. Step 1

Stand on the rounded ball side of the BOSU balance trainer and perform squats to develop stabilizing muscles of both the lower body as well as the core.

  2. Step 2

Step up and down on the BOSU ball, focusing on placing the feet on either side of the center-most circle of the ball. Minimize any wobbling by utilizing the muscles of the abs and back.

  3. Step 3

Flip the BOSU so that the ball portion is on the floor and the plastic disc is on the top. Grip either side of the plastic disc and get into a plank position. Perform pushups while balancing on the BOSU ball with your arms until you reach muscle failure.

  4. Step 4

Follow up with the head coach of your sport, a strength conditioning coach or sport specific personal trainer for progressive exercises.

Tips & Warnings
  • The trainer requires the body to develop balance muscles with even the easiest of moves, making them much more difficult, and in turn developing the muscles necessary for athletic power and skill.
  • Obtain a medical clearance from your doctor before starting any type of balance routine with sports conditioning. This will provide you with information about possible exercises that you may need to avoid depending on your level of physical fitness.
