From The Home Depot to Viagra, companies that sponsor NASCAR teams get an incredible amount of exposure once their logo makes it onto the car's hood. For popular NASCAR drivers, finding a sponsor is not a problem. In fact, companies ask, if not beg, to be a sponsor for those drivers. For a new NASCAR team, the road to getting a sponsor is tougher.

Things You'll Need:

  • NASCAR team
  • Marketable driver
  1. Step 1

Seek out companies that don't already sponsor a NASCAR team. The likelihood of a company sponsoring multiple cars is rare.

  2. Step 2

Gather a list of potential sponsors. Keep in mind that a wide variety of companies sponsor NASCAR teams. Don't limit your search for a particular genre of sponsors.

  3. Step 3

Present your team to the potential sponsor. Basically, you're selling your team to the sponsor and giving the sponsor the reasons why they should sponsor you. One key selling point is the amount of exposure the sponsor will receive. Obviously, the better the team, the more exposure.

  4. Step 4

Tell the potential sponsor exactly what you need. Don't beat around the bush. Be matter of fact in your presentation and let them know what you have to offer.

  5. Step 5

Negotiate the details like length of sponsorship, amount paid and special appearances.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sponsorships come in many different forms, from free spark plugs to multi-million-dollar deals. Any sponsor is a good sponsor, but obviously, the bigger the better.
  • Be sure to pick a sponsor you're comfortable with endorsing. For example, if you're opposed to alcohol consumption, then you wouldn't want to have a beer or liquor company as your sponsor.
  • Keep in mind that you will have to mention your sponsor every chance you get. If you've watched a NASCAR race, you've seen drivers go through the routine of mentioning their sponsors. Michael Waltrip is the best at the sponsor recognition game.
