Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Enjoy the family style dishes found in most Beijing restaurants. Family style is a mixture of spicy Szechuan and filling Shandong recipes. It is what most Chinese residents make at home. Try Shanghai style food for a sweeter dish or Peking Duck for classic Chinese fare.

  2. Step 2

Check out the restaurants listed by the Beijing Tourism Administration. Feel comfortable visiting any of the listed restaurants. These restaurants, approved by the Chinese government for inclusion on the Beijing Olympic website, provide the best Beijing has to offer.

  3. Step 3

Follow the suggestions found in your tour package. Established tour providers have an interest in directing their customers to a restaurant that caters to Western tourists. Ask other tourists for recommendations they have for Beijing restaurants.

  4. Step 4

Ask your hotel concierge desk for restaurant recommendations. Stop by a nearby American hotel for recommendations if you want a variety of choices.

  5. Step 5

Take a break from Chinese food and look for McDonald's or other Western restaurants. Kentucky Fried Chicken, T.G.I.F. and Hard Rock Café all have multiple restaurants in Beijing.

Tips & Warnings
  • The water used in many Chinese restaurants may negatively affect Western digestive systems. Stick with restaurants accustomed to serving Western visitors.
