Step 1
Check out large hotel chains with smoking bans. Westin Hotels and Resorts instituted a worldwide smoking ban in their properties. Other international hotel chains have their own smoke-free policies. Check with a travel or hotel reservation agent for information about hotels in Beijing.
-
Step 2
Follow progress on Beijing's new smoking ban. Beijing's municipal government banned smoking in taxis, schools, fitness centers and most public places, but the law receives spotty enforcement. Likewise, the government proposed that most hotel rooms become smoke free prior to the Olympics in Beijing. Keep track of the smoke-free policies and enforcement with authorities at the hotel and government agencies.
-
Step 3
Research smoke-free hotels through anti-smoking organizations. Many non-profit organizations, like Smoke Free World and the Inforesearchlab offer lists of smoke-free hotels worldwide.
-
Step 4
Consult a good Pan Pacific travel agent. Travel agencies that cater to tourists and businesspeople visiting China and other Asian and Pacific countries can give you more up to date information about smoke-free hotels in those countries, including Beijing.
-
Step 5
Talk with other travelers. Businesses that do frequent business with China can clue you in on smoke-free hotel rooms in Beijing that haven't made it to travel agent and website lists.
