Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- helmet
- elbow pads
- knee pads
- ripstik
- flat, traffic free road
Step1
Read owner's manual.
Step2
Put on helmet and pads.
Step3
Start by placing your preffered front foot centered on the nose paddle.
Step4
Push off with your back foot, and place it centered on the tail paddle.
Step5
You probably fell off pretty quick, but don't get discouraged! Try again.
Step6
Get on the board again, and try tilting your left foot slightly to the left or right. You will see that the board will steer in the direction you tilt your front foot. Keep working with this to get a sense of balance, and to see how to turn the board.
Step7
Once you initiate a turn with your front foot, you can follow through with your back foot. Start with GENTLE turns.
Step8
Start alternating turns left and right. These are S-turns.
Step9
Shift your hips and weight as you do your S-turns. You will accelerate a little with each push (like pumping on a surfboard). Once you get on a ripstik, this is how you will keep going. You don't have to get off!!!
Step10
Once you feel more confident, you can push your back foot out farther with each turn. This will create a snowboard like effect, and you will drift along sideways as if on snow or ice.
Step11
Now go ride around and have fun!
