Things You'll Need:

  • A desire to track visitor traffic to your blog
  1. Step 1

Enter this address in your Internet Explorer or other browser - http://google.com/analytics - to get to the Google Analytics sign-in page. In the box on the right side of the page, sign in to Google Analytics by entering your Google account's e-mail address and password.

This brings up the Google Analytics "Getting Started" page. Click the "Sign up" button located in the "Sign Up for Google Analytics" box.

  2. Step 2

Now at the "Analytics: New Account Signup" page, you will need to enter the URL of your blog or web site that you want to track with Google Analytics. You can also enter an "Account Name" or let it default to the URL address that you entered. Also enter your "Time zone country" and "Time zone" as prompted, and then click the "Continue" button.

  3. Step 3

Now at the next page of the "Analyics: New Account Signup" process, where you are prompted to enter your contact information. Fill in the information as prompted, and then click the "Continue" button.

This brings up the Google Analytics "Terms of Service" legalese, where you must click the checkbox saying that you agree, and then click the "Create New Account" button.

  4. Step 4

This brings up the "Analytics: Tracking Instructions" page, providing you a block of HTML code that you must copy and paste into your blog.

Highlight that block of HTML code, right-click and Copy, to have it to Paste into your blog in a separate window. Keep this window open, as you'll be returning here after you Paste it into your blog.

  5. Step 5

Open a separate browser window and go to your blog.
Click the "Customize" link and go to the "Layout" tab.
In the bottom area of the Layout page, go ahead and click the "Add a Page Element" link. Then click the "ADD TO BLOG" button next to the "HTML/JavaScript" choice. Now right-click and Paste the block of HTML code that you copied, into the "Content" box. The "Title" box can be left blank. Click "Save Changes".

Position this new Page Element at the very bottom of the blog Layout page. Click "Save".

  6. Step 6

Now back at the "Analytics: Tracking Instructions" page we left in Step 4, go ahead and click the "Continue" button, to proceed to your Google Analytics page, where your Web Site Profiles will be listed. The URL you entered in this sign-up process will be listed here as your first Web Site Profile.

  7. Step 7

Wait for 24 hours to give the Google Analytics software time to start recording traffic information about your blog and its visitors.

From now on, whenever you sign in to your Google Account at google.com, and then click the "My Account" link, there will be a service called "Analytics" listed in the "Services" column on the right side of the page. Clicking the "Analytics" link will take you to your Google Analytics page that you left in Step 6.

On the Google Analytics page, the Web Site Profile that you've created will be listed, and you can click the "View Reports" link to see the daily traffic trends for your blog site.

Additional Web Site Profiles can also now be added by clicking the "Add Website Profile" link on this page.
