How to Compatible Canine Training Tip - T.E.A.M Work

One of the biggest complaints I hear from dog owners is how expensive it is to get your dog trained. Then I think about the quality of the “affordable” group training programs, and wish everyone could afford private lessons. Since reality is generally less generous I wanted to give the average pet owner the opportunity to get quality training tips for a great price… Free! Every month you can get tips ranging from housebreaking issues, socialization, dominance, or aggression issues, to obeying on a leash. If dogs have a problem I probably have a training tip for it. I even have a simple solution for getting your dog to take a pill… and no, it doesn’t involve cheese. One of the most important training tools a person can have is their voice. This tool is misused more often in training than any other training aide. Something I like to impress upon my clients is the importance of T.E.A.M work. Not necessarily you and your dog working as a team, but the way you manage your voice and body language when training for success. What is T.E.A.M work? Tone, Emotion, Attitude, and Movement.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

1. Artichoke - seven-month-old Border Collie mix Tone: By using your voice in clear ways you will make it much easier for your dog to learn. Be consistent in pitch and volume, and consistent with the words you use. Repetition is the way to successful training.
2. Emotion: By controlling your emotion and showing the dog that you are genuinely pleased with their performance, builds their trust. Proper praise and reward programs build their enthusiasm, making them eager to learn. Training is most successful when it is fun!
3. Attitude: You have to maintain a positive attitude. Decide that you are going to do something and you make it inevitable. Your dog will learn through your good leadership.
4. Movement: By learning the proper movements to teach the basic behaviors, you make it possible for your dog to learn. Since dogs depend so much on body language to communicate, we must show him what we want through movement. Every movement should have purpose and logic behind it.

Tips & Warnings

• Using T.E.A.M work will make any training program a success. Patients, perseverance, and determination will ensure a lifelong bond between you and your canine companion.
• Never use harsh training methods such as Alpha training on ANY dog. If you get frustrated with your dog, walk away. If your dog responds aggressively to the training you are trying to implement seek the advice of an animal behavior specialist right away.
