Almost everyone knows that women go to the gynecologist when they want to get tested for STDs, but where should men go? If you are a male that suspects that you may have been infected by an STD, you may be wondering where you should go for an STD test. There are a number of ways to find STD testing for males.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A phone or the Internet
Step1
Check out the health department of your high school, college or university if you are a student. Most of the time, you will be able to receive an STD test at the school that you currently attend for free. Some university health departments may provide STD testing to public, though it is generally not free.
Step2
Call the state health department and find out if they provide STD testing. Be sure to ask for directions to the nearest location. One of the benefits of going to a state health department is the fact that they will usually provide you with a free STD test, though some may require a minimal fee.
Step3
Make an appointment at Planned Parenthood. Although most people associated Planned Parenthood with women, they also provide their services to men as well. Although many locations may accept walk-ins, you should consider making an appointment because they will need to be prepared to test you for STDs. While men do visit Planned Parenthood, it is predominately for women.
Step4
Visit your primary care physician. Most offices will gladly provide STD testing for men. Do keep in mind that you will not usually be able to get tested for STDs for free at your primary care physician, however. Depending on your health insurance policy, this can be quite expensive.
Step5
Find STD clinics in the area that you live in. There are many throughout the United States. All that you need to do to find one is look in your local phone book or search for STD clinics online. One of the main benefits of going to STD clinics to get tested is that they are generally free or low cost.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep in mind that religious schools do not typically provide STD testing.
  • Primary care physicians may be able to recommend some place for you to get tested for STDs.
  • Don’t be embarrassed about getting tested for STDs. Many men and women go through it.
  • If you are diagnosed with any type of STD, it is important to tell sexual partners and refrain from sex for as long as you recommended to.
  • If you notice any unusual symptoms that you feel may be related to STDs, don’t wait. Get tested as soon as possible.
  • Don’t wait to tell your partner if you are diagnosed with an STD. She or he will want to get tested as soon as possible.
