Old fashioneds are truly old fashioned. It's a true classic: retro, vintage. They're fun to make, smell good and are the forefather of contemporary, muddled cocktails.

Customers who order old fashioneds will linger around the bar and regale you with great stories about the war (I, II or Korean). They will fill your Sunday afternoon with heroism, loss and love.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

You can mix this cocktail directly in your highball glass. First, put an orange slice, a lemon and a couple of cherries in the glass.

  2. Step 2

Add a teaspoon or less of superfine sugar and sprinkle a couple of drops of bitter on top.

  3. Step 3

Muddle until fragrant and the sugar is dissolved.

  4. Step 4

    Fill with ice.

  5. Step 5

    Pretty much fill with whiskey.

  6. Step 6

Top off with a splash of soda. Shake once or twice with shaker can but don't disturb the fruit too much.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use Scotch, Tennessee mash or whatever whiskey of your choosing.
  • Cut your oranges into wheels for best presentation.
  • Make sure the shaker can fits fairly snugly on the highball glass.
