How to Dye and Decorate Easter Eggs

Dying and decorating easter eggs is a childhood right of passage for many. Even just the basic dye and dunk method is great fun for kids. Trying new and exciting ways to decorate your easter eggs is always fun.

1. Dying easter eggs with food coloring is always fun. You can breathe new life into this old tradition with a few small changes. Let your kids color on their easter eggs with a white crayon prior to dying them. When they dye the eggs, the parts that have crayon on them will not take the dye and the eggs will look fancier. You can also do this with stickers and tape. For instances, if you use tape to wrap the egg in certain parts, when you dye it it will have stripes.
2. You can also for go dying your easter eggs and decorate them. Making a collage out of your easter eggs can be really fun. You can glue things like flowers, glitter, sequins and fabric on your eggs and really make them interesting. This is a great idea if you want to use your eggs as a centerpiece for your easter dinner table. Children love making collages, so this idea can really spark their imagination. You can even make egg buddies, by making you easter eggs look like animals or people.
3. Painting easter eggs is another alternative to dying them. Painting your easter eggs gives you the ability to really design them and make them fancy. You can use spray paint or acrylic paints, to achieve the best results. Painting your eggs can be done with sponges, brushes and even fingers. Kids love to paint so painting easter eggs is always a good choice.
4. Toddlers may also enjoy coloring their easter eggs. You can use markers, crayons and stampers with ink to create unique easter eggs. Test out all of your tools prior to sitting down with your kids to ensure they all mark and stay on the eggs.
5. For a more natural route, consider dying your eggs with natural ingredients. You can use cranberries, blueberries, coffee, beets and other foods that are naturally pigmented to dye your eggs. To extract color from your natural items, you will place your eggs, a spoonful of vinegar and your natural item to a shallow pan of water. Bring everything to a boil and then remove from heat. Allow everything to cool and then remove your easter eggs from the mixture.
