How to Provide Technology Training Outside of the Classroom

This article explores technology training methods using technology as an alternative to the traditional classroom method.

Things You’ll Need:

• MP3 Player
• The Internet
• Software used by the creators of videos and podcasts (this will vary according to what your trying to view)
• Adobe Pagemaker
• Microsoft Publisher or other graphic design software of your choice.
• PC or Mac

1. Create short training manuals and turn the file into a .pdf. (Download the software in order to do this.) Post the .pdf of your training manual on your website or email it to your client to review on their own time.
2. Log on to the internet and download iTunes to access thousands of Podcasts on the topic of your choice. Many will show you how to cook, learn more about the bible, and hundreds of other topics.
3. Create your own podcast by purchasing a recorder for your MP3 player. Record your training session and create a podcast with it. Place it on your website for your client to view at their convenience.
4. Download the software Camtasia or Captivate to create a training video. This software will record the actions you are taking on your computer screen and record them. Use a headset with a microphone to record audio to go along with the actions on the screen. Keep them to one minute or less each. Post them on your website for easy access.

Tips & Warnings

• Step number 4 is for PC users. Mac users will require different software, compatible with the Mac.
