How to Treat Pink Eye With Home Remedies

Pink eye is an inflammation of the membranes covering the eyes, as well as the insides of the eyelids. This inflammation is unsightly and can be quite painful. Instructions

    • 1

Wash your eyes with eyebright. This is a common herb you can find at most health food stores or at farmers markets. Make a tea from the eyebright by steeping 1 tsp. of the herb in 1 cup of boiling water. Allow the tea to cool, then strain off the herb leaves and put the tea in an eye cup. Rinse out your eye from the eye cup each night and the pink eye should clear up in a day or two.

Put five drops of eyebright tincture in a cup of cool water that has previously been boiled. Wash your eyes each night with this combination until the pink eye clears up.

    • 3

Place a moistened chamomile tea bag over the affected eye. You don't need to make a tea out of the chamomile, just soak the bag under cool, running water. Let the bag rest on your eye for 10 minutes. Do this each night until the pink eye goes away. It usually takes a day or two to work.

Treat pink eye with pulsatilla tablets. This is one of several homeopathic remedies that are known to be effective on pink eye. Five tablets every 3 to 4 hours until the pink eye goes away is the standard dose, but follow the dosing directions on the bottle you purchase.

Meditate on your third eye. The third eye is an invisible spot between your actual eyes on your forehead that is said to be the center for psychic activity. Meditation enthusiasts claim that continually focusing on the third eye and willing it to open up is an effective home remedy for pink eye. Try meditating on the third eye for 20 to 30 minutes each day until the condition clears up.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your child has pink eye, he will likely be sent home from school and not allowed to return until it is cured, in case it is a contagious variety.

  • If the home remedies you use to treat pink eye don't cause it to clear up within a week, see a doctor, as you might have a stubborn case that needs an antibiotic.
