Reiki is a branch of the holistic and alternative medicine movement that focuses on moving universal life energy to support a person's natural healing processes. One of the best things about Reiki is that anyone can become a Reiki practitioner and deliver its benefits to people.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Find a Reiki Master willing to share his knowledge of treating someone with Reiki. Many Reiki Masters are willing to teach students, usually for a suitable fee depending on the student's means. Be sure to check the lineage of the Reiki Master, as the best masters can trace their training back to the founder of Reiki, Dr. Mikao Usui.
Step2
Undergo attunement at the hands of the Reiki Master. In order to become a Reiki practitioner, a Reiki Master must channel energy into the beginning practitioner that will realign her chakras as the new practitioner recites a specific mantra that will enhance her connection to the Reiki energy. This attunement is usually done over the course of 1 to 2 days, and also incorporates self-development exercises.
Step3
Attain level 2 Reiki in order to channel Reiki from a distance. The second level of channeling Reiki allows the practitioner to send Reiki at a distance, which becomes quite useful when dealing with family, friends and clients who cannot be touched physically. This course is also taught over 1 or 2 days but generally requires a greater financial commitment, which represents one's commitment to the principles of Reiki.
Step4
Practice channeling Reiki. A Reiki Master will usually guide the beginning Reiki practitioner through the first few times he channels Reiki until the master feels the practitioner is ready to go off on his own. After that, channel Reiki for family, friends and co-workers, practicing and spreading the positive universal energy that is at the core of Reiki.
Step5
Open up a practice. Reiki may be combined with several other types of healing techniques, from conventional medicine to aromatherapy, and can increase a person's response to any other therapies they have had. Learn techniques like massage and crystal healing in order to blend these skills together.
Step6
Teach others about Reiki. Become a Reiki Master, which is stage 3 of the Reiki learning, and involves months of studying one-on-one with a certified Reiki Master. This will enhance credibility in the alternative and holistic medicine areas, and it eventually becomes the cornerstone of being a Reiki practitioner.

Tips & Warnings

  • Becoming a Reiki practitioner will require a substantial time commitment if learned in the traditional way. Correspondence courses and distance learning may decrease the time needed to become a Reiki practitioner. However, these courses may lead to a credibility problem when dealing with more traditional Reiki practitioners.
