Between the planning and the bills, there are countless things to worry about when it comes to planning a wedding. One thing that you shouldn't have to worry about is dancing. While dancing in public can be a source of anxiety for most people, there are plenty of ways to improve your dancing skills before the big day. You may choose to sign up for professional dance lessons.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Enroll in a dance class at a privately owned dance studio like Fred Astaire Studios (see Resources below). The lessons you'll get at a studio will be far more intensive and comprehensive. The price of enlisting the help of a professional dance instructor may be prohibitive, so you'll want to explore your other options before you agree to sign up.

  2. Step 2

Visit your local community center to see if it's offering any dance lessons. A good community center will have all kinds of low-cost courses and activities. In addition to the savings, you'll probably find the classes to be more casual and relaxed than those you'd receive in a professional dance studio.

  3. Step 3

Ask for recommendations from friends and family members. While it's easy enough to find a dance studio or private instructor in your town by looking online or in the phone book, the advice you'll get from a trusted party will be far more valuable.

  4. Step 4

Ask the dance instructor if you can sit in and watch a lesson before agreeing to sign up to join the class. You'll want to select an instructor you like and trust. Learning to dance can be a nerve-wracking experience, so you'll want to make sure to select an instructor with whom you get along.

  5. Step 5

Find a friend to join you when you sign up for dance lessons. Like any good diet or exercise regimen, it's a lot easier to stay on track when you're accountable to a friend. Also, you'll be able to practice your dance moves with each other outside of the studio classroom.

Tips & Warnings
  • Talk to the wedding organizers to get an idea of the types of music that will be played at the reception. There are as many kinds of dances as there are kinds of music, so you'll need a good idea of what kinds of steps you should be practicing during dance lessons.
  • Save money on dance lessons by asking a friend with some dance experience to give you an overview of the basics. You may find that you don't really need to sign up for professional dance lessons at all. Additionally, you may be able to find comprehensive instructional videos online.
  • Sign up for dance lessons as soon as you hear about an upcoming wedding. You'll want to give yourself as much time as possible to familiarize yourself with the various dance moves. Additionally, space in dance classes may get tighter during the busy wedding seasons of spring and summer.
