How to Personalize a Wedding Toast

There are hundreds of pre-written wedding toasts available from just as many resources. If you've attended several weddings, you may have heard the same toast more than once. If you're planning to give a wedding toast, it's important to personalize it, so the bride and groom know that you are sincere. Luckily, it is a simple task to make sure that your wedding toast is special and let everyone know you took the time to personalize your toast for this very special day.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Include an anecdote about the bride and groom. It could be about the way they met or an experience the 3 of you shared. Whatever the case, the short trip down memory lane will be fun for everyone, and it's an easy way to personalize your toast.
Step2
Select a poem, religious passage or quote that is meaningful for the bride and groom. It could be from their favorite book or movie or just something relevant to the couple. If you can't find anything memorable and unique enough for the happy couple, write something yourself or have something written for you.
Step3
Refer to the wedding ceremony. This is a good way to personalize your wedding toast if the bride and groom have decided to write their own vows. You can make a reference to what they have said to one another and how beautiful or touching it was.
Step4
Dig up the past if you have been acquainted with the couple for a long time. If you can recall anything poignant or funny that an old teacher, coach or even their parents said to you, by all means use it. Everyone may not get the inside joke, but you're there for the bride and groom, not the other guests.
Step5
Speak to the bride and groom one by one. Separate your speech into sections by addressing the bride and groom separately by name and giving each one a mini speech.
Step6
Personalize the speech for all 3 of you by letting the bride and groom know how much you are inspired by them to find your true love or something equally touching. This is the occasion to pull out all the stops and say things you wouldn't ordinarily reveal. The happy couple will remember your touching words for many years to come.

Tips & Warnings

  • Tuck a tissue in your sleeve or keep it in your hand as you speak. Wedding speeches make nearly everyone a little tearful, so be prepared to catch those tears--either yours or those of the person next to you.
