Digital wedding photos make a great way to save money on your wedding album while still getting high-quality images of your big day. You can use online wedding albums and digital designs to create a gorgeous wedding album for the digital age, available both in a traditional book form and online or as a DVD for your friends and guests from far away to watch.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine whether you wish to create a digital wedding album yourself or you want your photographer to do it. Many photographers will create a digital version of the album as part of their services, but you may want to design it yourself, which will save money and can be fun if you enjoy graphic design work.

  2. Step 2

Consult with your photographer about the kind of input you will have in your digital wedding album. Most photographers who offer such services will allow the couple to select certain backgrounds, arrange the order of the photos, and choose borders and other elements, which they can then use to make the template for the photo album.

  3. Step 3

Purchase wedding album software. You can use basic software like Adobe Photoshop augmented with templates. This step may not be necessary if your photographer will create your digital wedding album for you.

  4. Step 4

Gather any additional digital pictures you may want to include in the album. In addition to those from the "official" photographer (regardless of whether he's a professional or just a friend or family member pitching in), you should get pictures from guests who brought their own digital cameras for the event. They often capture spontaneous images and moments which the official photographer might miss, and you'll want to check to see whether any should be included in the album.

  5. Step 5

Assemble the images and graphics using the software you have purchased or send the photographer instructions on which elements you wish to use.

  6. Step 6

Set up an online site for displaying your wedding album to those who want to see it. This can be as elaborate as using services offered by your photographer for such a purpose, or as simple as setting up a MySpace page and posting jpegs of the event there. Sites like Weddings.sc allow you to upload your digital wedding albums with a minimum of fuss (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
  • Many wedding photographers offer digital photography these days and you should make sure they are using that instead of or in addition to traditional film if you wish to create a digital wedding album. Otherwise, you'll have to scan the photographs to get the requisite digital images, losing a great deal of quality.
