Easy AND inexpensive way to keep the feed for the birds NOT the squirrels - they can eat whats on the ground!!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Empty - round - 39 oz plastic coffee container like Folgers.
  • Electric or battery Drill and large drill bit
  • Small car hose clamp and screwdriver
  • Sharp knife or box opener or wallpaper knife
  1. Step 1

Measure the size or diameter of your yard feeder pole.

  2. Step 2

Drill a hole in the center of the bottom of the empty plastic coffee container that is the same size or diameter of the feeder pole.

  3. Step 3

Using the very sharp knife, box cutter or wallpaper knife - CAREFULLY cut along the 'seam' of the plastic coffee container from the drilled hole out to the side and down to the top, so the container is split open on ONE side.

  4. Step 4

With your screwdriver, completely unscrew the small hose clamp. Wrap the open clamp around the feeder pole and tightly clamp it to the pole, 3 to 4 feet above the ground, or one foot below the feeder.

  5. Step 5

Holding the coffee container UPSIDE DOWN, slowly slide it along the split side onto the feeder pole above the clamp until the pole is in the drilled hole. Slide the coffee container down to the clamp.

  6. Step 6

The coffee container should not be secured to the pole - it should remain LOOSE so the smart little squirrels cant use it as a perch to get to the feeder. Its upside down so water cant accumulate in it and it wont allow squirrels to climb past it.

  7. Step 7

Use an inexpensive exterior paint(spray can) and paint the coffee container to match the feeder pole.
