Choosing nursery décor is an exciting part of preparing for the arrival of a new baby. Regardless of the theme you choose, making a baby name wall hanging is a great way to add a personal touch to the décor you’ve chosen for your baby’s nursery. All you need are a few tools and a little creativity to make a unique baby name wall hanging to add a custom feel to the nursery.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Medium or large craft letters (wood or paper mache)
  • Decorative paper
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Small foam brush
  • Craft stick or tongue depressor
  • Decoupage medium
  • Ribbon
  • Small self-healing cutting mat
  • Art knife

Step1
Select decorative papers that complement your nursery décor. You can find great images and patterns in vintage children’s books, scrapbooking stores, magazines and old calendars.
Step2
Cut out individual images using the art knife and self-healing cutting mat.
Step3
Spell out your baby’s first name with the craft letters then place the images on the letters to determine how you want to arrange them.
Step4
Brush a layer of decoupage medium onto the first letter then position the paper cutouts on the letter, making sure to wrap the paper around the edges to the back of the letter. This ensures that no wood or paper mache will be showing on the final product.
Step5
Use the craft stick or tongue depressor to smooth out each cutout and remove bubbles.
Step6
Apply a layer of decoupage medium after the first layer has completely dried. Repeat as necessary.
Step7
Repeat Steps 4 through 6 with each letter then allow all the letters to dry completely.
Step8
Cut two 18-inch lengths of ribbon for each letter. Glue both pieces to the back of each letter, placing them on opposite sides of the letter. Allow time for the glue to dry.
Step9
Tie each pair of ribbons into a decorative bow then hang each letter on the nursery room wall to spell your baby's name. Be sure to secure the letters to the wall so that the ribbons do not bear the weight of the letters as they may fall off otherwise.

Tips & Warnings

  • Beads, trims and buttons make great embellishments to the craft letters.
