The next time you are in a supermarket, department store, or at a gas station, count the number of people who pay for their purchases with cash or check, and count the number of people who pay using a credit card. Many people would be surprised to learn that over 50% of retail purchases are made by credit cards. This is in complete contrast to how business took place as recently as the 60's and 70's. One thing that I do is always take a certain amount of cash with me for that week. For example if me and my wife are grocery shopping we take only $100 to the grocery store. Now if we over spend our debit cards are left at home so we have to shop wisely. Having a card on you always make you over spend your budget. Having cash in hand is always budget wise shopping.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Discipline
  1. Step 1

    1. Plan Your Weekly/Daily spending. (Gas/lunch/social time).

  2. Step 2

    2. Stick to your budget. Avoid using your debt card for impulse expenses. (clubbing/shopping)

  3. Step 3

    3. Stay on track. It is rewarding to see how much money you really save.

Tips & Warnings
  • When I first started this strategy of leaving my debit card at home. I debited the money I needed for the first two weeks according to my budget. After that I froze DEBIT CARD in a cup of ice. This really made me stick to my financial plan. I had to wait till the ice melted to use my card. This gave me time to think If the purchase was necessary.
  • This not easy at first,While learning positive behaviors about money its going to take practice and change of bad habits to good habits.
