To start off with this all is based on average/middle class wages & assorted pocket money. I’m starting this off with tires are the fundamental part of any drift. Don’t get me wrong you can drift with any tire but the key to drift is not always the technique, but the tires you’re using. The next step will be the type of car with the type of transmissions. Then the last step will be the type of interior equipment that might be used in a drifting race or any other race.

  1. Step 1

    When choosing the proper tire you have to keep in mind a few key details… 1. The Amount of surface of the tire that touches the ground. 2. Size. & 3. Not as important but a small factor…Style. The more surface that touches the ground, the more grip or drift (depending on the tire) your car will have. The smoother the tire the more drift it has. The more tread and hardness of the tire the more grip it has. The size of the tire has two dimensions Width of tire & Size of the rim. Those two factors can make or break you. That’s where style comes in. The style of your rims depends on you. Rim size & style vary from person to person so each is different. Another factor that I’m not sure a lot know about…tires that have been recycled and died with different colors. WOW I know tires that have different color smoke. They come in assorted colors. Take your pick.

  2. Step 2

    The second factor is the type of engine to use; the choices out there currently are 3. Manuel, Simi-Auto, & Automatic. Most prefer Manuel, its harder to learn but more flexible with its potential. Automatic for those who are not sure how to change gears as easy, but have most of the time raw horsepower that pushes. And Simi-auto is for those who have trouble with Manuel transmissions but know how to transfer gears. At that point once you have your selected transmission you can go about tuning, which is a whole other article. (Coming soon!!!)

  3. Step 3

    The third factor in drifting would be the equipment within the vehicle that is used during a race. TO START THESE ARE THINGS THAT IF CAUGHT…WILL CAUSE TROUBLE WITH THE LAW IN MOST STATES. So be cautious about what you put in your car and what not to put in your car. 1. Gauges (Not Illegal) Standard gauges only show what the car does factory. Upgraded gauges show what the car has the potential to do. BUT DON’T put a 150MPH gauge on a stock car and think it’ll pull. IT WON’T RUN OFF HOPES & DREAMS. You have to Modify, Modify, and Modify some more. 2. Seating (Very Important) DO NOT remove seatbelts. You CAN Replace with racing seatbelts & seats if preferred but do not remove completely. NEVER! 3. Radar (Illegal in Most States) But keep it low and on only when needed. OPTIONAL: Police scanner. THIS WILL GET YOU IN TROUBLE. DO NOT LET A COP CATCH THAT! 4. Roll bars or Roll Cage (Yes I know that either scares you or excites you) But to race and stay safe a roll cage will save your life (in the right conditions). It’s a style and a safety factor. Those are the basic necessities that are required for a good race.
