How to Trade Those Last Cassettes for CDs Inexpensively

Let’s admit it. We all have those cassette tapes from, say, high school or middle school. These are the sounds that take us back in time and we’re not quite ready to let them go, right? Even if our favorite records (OK, they’re not even called that anymore) are in the value bin, it can still add up to a hefty sum. You could get a machine that will record cassettes onto CD, but that isn’t cheap either. There is a better way.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Gather up all those cassettes. Be discriminating. Do you really need all of them? Pick the ones you will listen to, even if it’s at a reunion of your high school friends. That Miami Vice soundtrack can provide hours of fun, you know.
Step2
Log on to an auction website like eBay. With the search tool you’ll most likely be able to find the CD version of your cassette treasures. Check out the length of the auction and if you’re comfortable with it, sign in and make a bid.
Step3
As you purchase CDs to replace tapes, try to sell the cassettes on an auction site, perhaps a few in a single package. It may not work, but it’s worth a try.

Tips & Warnings

  • Set the limit on what you’ll pay for the CD. You can keep it low and if you’re outbid, you can always sign back in and up the bid. Otherwise, let it go and try again. It’s most likely you’ll see another copy up for sale.
