Things You'll Need:
- Dyes
- Kistky or electric kistky (a wax stylus)
- Beeswax
- Eggs
- Something to blow air through the egg
- Needle
-
Step 1
Empty the eggs. Take a needle and poke a small hole in both the top and the bottom of the egg. Run the needle around the inside of the egg to break the yoke. Take an air tool and insert it into the top or bottom hole and squeeze. The yoke should come out the other end.
-
Step 2
Mix the dyes. The dye is much like when you're making classic Easter eggs. Just a few drops in water will be enough to color eggs. Different colors mean different themes (see links).
-
Step 3
Prepare the wax. Put some beeswax in the top of the kitsky. An electric one will heat itself, while a manual will need to be heated over a candle.
-
Step 4
Start the decoration. It may take a couple of tries to get the stream of wax coming out of the stylus quite right. If it's too hot, more wax will come out, but it must be hot enough to get a steady amount of wax.
-
Step 5
Dye the eggs. Start with the lightest color and then make your decoration by drawing the reverse design with the wax. For example, if you want white lines for animal designs, mark those first and go on from there.
-
Step 6
Remove the wax. Once the design is completely and you've dyed the darkest color you want, start to remove the wax a small patch at a time. Take the side of a candle's flame and when the wax is melted, wipe it off with a clean cloth.
