A nursing assistant cares for patents under the direct supervision of a Registered nurse. A nursing assistant works in hospitals, nursing homes, private duty, hospice nursing, or a doctor's office. You will measure and record patient's vital signs, assist in moving patients in whatever form is needed, give personal care by helping patients eat, wash and drink. You will make beds, change patients, dress and undress them. These are just some of the hands on experience you will learn as a nursing assistant. There are full and part-time shifts available that can fit your needs and lifestyle better.

Look into your state requirements for nursing assistants. If you are working, your employer might be able to pay for your classes. If you are hired by as a nursing assistant, you will probably have a criminal background check and a drug test. Those are standard for anyone working with the public.

Finished school and then you have to take a state certification exam to become a professional nursing assistant.

Takes a very special person to become a nursing assistant. You have to have compassion, empathy, patience, and a true desire to help people.

Have strong communication skills. You need to be able to talk to your patients and understand what you are saying to them and what they say back to you.

Need to be a team player. Everyone on the staff works together. Nursing assistants are the one person who is in contact with the patients than anyone else in the staff.
