I am starting a new business and I have great ideas but there is something I am missing. How do I figure out who my customer is?

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Your product and/ or service
  • Characteristics of what you are offering

Step1
So your starting a business… you have all the tools and a great idea! I know your ready and probably thinking you’re going to sell your idea, product or service to everyone and you’re going to make millions. Although this is a great idea and your end result is something worth working for, it’s just not realistic. Instead you need a plan and some identifying information to ensure success. You cannot possibly become a millionaire if you have no idea who you are selling to. You need to hone in on the who, what, where, why, and how of your offering(s).
Step2
You will need to ask yourself some essential questions prior to starting:
• Who is my customer?
• What are the characteristics of my customer?
• What will my customer attain from my products and/ or services?
• What benefits will I offer my customer?
• What priority should each benefit have?
Step3
You have identified some things that will help you with identifying your target market and helping you determine where to concentrate your efforts. Concentrating your efforts is the main purpose of your business strategy and will determine how strong your position is in the marketplace. The truth is that every product or service has an intended end user. It’s up to you to determine who this is and what you have to offer them.
